A deep dive into pre and post-production with photographer Jonni Westside
An exclusive look behind the lens with photographer Jonni Westside (@jonniwestside) at Selong Belanak Beach, Lombok, Indonesia. This was an opportunity to work with Jonni on set, and leverage his knowledge and specialised skillset in film photography. This collaborative session involved coaching advanced techniques and processes in both pre- and post-production, working together on art direction, setting and the physical shooting itself.
The shoot itself was for Kilau Swim, a Bali-based swimwear brand focused on elegant, minimalist pieces that evoke the spirit of island life.
We worked with two film cameras: the 1976 Fujica ST605 35mm SLR camera and the Mamiya RB67, with its medium format single-lens reflex system. All shots were taken on Ilford Delta 400 35mm, a black-and-white film known for its fine grain and ability to bring out high-contrast detail. The negatives were developed and scanned in Bali, and all final shots are raw photos, unretouched and straight from the film.
